The FIA Formula 2 Championship has unveiled its new car for the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons during the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza.

The new challenger was presented at a dedicated event in the paddock of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

Formula 2 continues to serve as one of the key development categories for young drivers aiming to reach Formula 1. Recent graduates include current F1 drivers Kimi Antonelli, Isack Hadjar and Arvid Lindblad.

The new car has been designed to further strengthen that role by helping drivers prepare for Formula 1 while also promoting closer racing.

Among the main changes are redesigned front and rear wings, along with the introduction of an on-board starter. The system will allow drivers to restart their cars after spinning or stalling on track.

The new design has been brought closer to the current visual philosophy of Formula 1 cars. However, the existing Dallara chassis has been retained in order to keep costs under control.

Formula 2 will also continue to use advanced sustainable fuel supplied by Aramco, together with Pirelli tyres.

The specifications for braking performance, steering effort and cockpit ergonomics will remain unchanged, ensuring that the car remains accessible to a broad range of drivers.

Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali described the new car as another important step in preparing the next generation of Formula 1 drivers.

Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel said the main objective in developing the new car was to ensure that it remains an effective tool for preparing drivers for Formula 1.

According to Michel, redesigning the front and rear wings will help keep costs under control while bringing the car's appearance closer to Formula 1 machinery and improving its ability to deliver closer racing.

The new Formula 2 car will make its competitive debut in the championship from the 2027 season.
