It is difficult to find a more appropriate venue to discuss the future of global media than the Shusha Global Media Forum. Shusha is not just a city, it is also a symbol. For centuries, it has been a place of intellectual and cultural debate, where literature, music, journalism and public opinion flourished. Now it is becoming a place where dialogue, ideas and international cooperation are re-established.
These words belong to Mr. Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, during his speech at the IV Shusha Global Media Forum on the topic "The Mission of the Media in Promoting Peace: Restoring Truth and Rebuilding Trust".
He noted that the Shusha Global Media Forum is not merely a conference, but a platform for journalists, politicians, academics and technology leaders to explore ways to preserve one of the most important values of the media, namely truth and facts. As today the information and disinformation are spreading very quickly, while trust is often and consistently lagging behind. Artificial intelligence is reshaping journalism.
"Peace now depends not only on diplomacy, but also on accounatble communication. Conflicts are being waged not only on the battlefield, but also in the information space. Now, while revanchist forces are still rising in some circles of Armenian society, the responsibility of the media to resist distortions, reject hatred and defend the truth is increasing. Although the conflict is over, revanchist forces still dominate the Armenian media. Even some international media organizations are trying to drag us back to the "zero point" where the conflict began," Mr. Hajiyev concluded.
