BYD, the world’s No. 1 manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEVs), officially entered Azerbaijan’s passenger vehicle market with a launch event held at the Heydar Aliyev Center. The event marked not only the debut of five new energy models, but also the beginning of a new era of sustainable mobility in the country. The brand’s official dealer in Baku is BYD Baku, part of SARDA Group.
Held under the concept “From Fire to Flow,” the launch event paid tribute to Azerbaijan’s identity as the “Land of Fire” while presenting a shared vision for the future. For generations, fire has symbolized the energy, resilience and progress of our people. Today, that same pioneering spirit flows into a new era through smart, efficient and sustainable mobility. “From Fire to Flow” does not replace the past; it carries it forward into the future through innovation.
To bring this vision to life, BYD unveiled five new energy vehicles designed for different lifestyles: the YUAN UP EV for agile urban mobility; the YUAN UP DM-i for everyday freedom beyond the city; the SEALION 6 EV for premium all-electric family journeys; the SEALION 6 DM-i for long-distance and versatile travel; and the SEAL 6 DM-i for smart and highly efficient mobility.
Together, these models showcase BYD’s industry-leading e-Platform 3.0, CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology, and Fifth-Generation DM technology, delivering outstanding safety, intelligent performance and high efficiency. The flagship SEAL 6 DM-i stands out with fuel consumption of just 2.79 liters per 100 km and a combined driving range of up to 2,110 km. The SEALION 6 EV, meanwhile, offers an all-electric range of up to 710 km. Whether navigating the streets of Baku, exploring the Caucasus, or managing everyday family life, BYD now offers a new energy solution for every journey.
BYD’s presence in Azerbaijan extends far beyond passenger vehicles. More than 600 BYD electric buses are already contributing to the development of greener public transport across the country. At the same time, Azerbaijan Energy Automotive Factory (AEAF), established in the Sumgayit Industrial Park through the joint initiative of the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund, SARDA Group and BYD, has begun the production of electric vehicles. The first 12-meter BYD electric bus assembled at the facility has already been officially handed over to BakuBus. This initiative further strengthens local manufacturing, industrial cooperation and Azerbaijan’s transition towards a sustainable mobility ecosystem.
At the same time, the history of cooperation between SARDA Group and BYD dates back to 2009. The first steps towards the partnership were taken during a visit to China by Rauf Khalilov, owner of SARDA Group. Over the years of cooperation, hundreds of BYD vehicles have been sold and serviced in Azerbaijan, while the partnership later entered a new stage of development through the electric bus project. Today, this long-standing cooperation is reaching a new milestone with BYD’s large-scale return to the Azerbaijani market and the development of long-term projects in the field of new energy.
Today, BYD’s new energy vehicles are present in more than 120 countries and regions worldwide. Azerbaijan represents another important milestone in BYD’s long-term development strategy across Central Asia and the Caucasus. This is not simply about bringing world-class technology to a new market; it is about building long-term partnerships that support industrial development, technological innovation and a greener future.
“From Fire to Flow” is more than the theme of a launch event.
It is the beginning of a shared journey.
A journey where Azerbaijan’s rich energy heritage meets the future of intelligent mobility.
Different Technologies. Different Lifestyles. One BYD.
Build Your Dreams.
