The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria hosted a discussion meeting on the theme “Power of Synergy: Energy Security and Green Transition”, bringing together representatives of leading Bulgarian academic institutions, energy, green economy and urban experts, and strategic stakeholders to exchange views on the preparation of a high-level event planned for 2026.
The discussion focused on opportunities for enhancing Azerbaijan–Bulgaria cooperation in the fields of energy security, green transition, sustainable urban development, technological innovation, and academic partnership, while also exploring broader regional dimensions of connectivity and energy resilience.
The event brought together representatives of the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG), SOCAR Office in Sofia, and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
During the discussions, the participants highlighted the growing importance of regional cooperation in ensuring energy diversification, strengthening sustainable infrastructure, and balancing energy with cleaner and more resilient energy systems. Particular attention was paid to the role of academic institutions and scientific cooperation in supporting innovation-driven approaches to energy security, green transformation and creation of new sustainable jobs at the national and cities level.
The discussions also highlighted Azerbaijan’s growing global contribution through major international platforms such as COP29 and the upcoming World Urban Forum (WUF13), reflecting the country’s commitment to advancing international dialogue on climate action, sustainable urban development, green transition, and creating long-term global legacy initiatives in these fields.
The representatives of the participating universities emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between Universities of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria in areas such as renewable energy, nuclear technologies, urban sustainability, industrial innovation, and scientific exchange. The participants also underlined the strategic significance of public-private-academia partnership in addressing emerging regional and global energy challenges.
The meeting also served as a preparatory platform for the forthcoming high-level event on “Power of Synergy: Energy Security and Green Transition”, planned to be held in 2026 by the initiative of the Embassy, which is expected to bring together policymakers, universities, academic leaders, industry representatives, and international experts to further advance dialogue and cooperation in the fields of energy security and sustainable development.
