Fourth-year students from the Azerbaijani, Russian, and English sections of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science at Baku State University (BSU) have completed a field internship in the Guba district.

During the internship, students received detailed information about the Guba district, which is part of the Guba-Khachmaz Economic Region. They learned that the district’s proximity to the Absheron Economic Region, particularly the cities of Baku and Sumgait, provides it with a favorable economic and geographical position. Students also studied the diversity of soil-landscape complexes in the region, as well as its agricultural, industrial, recreational, and environmental resources.

Ecology students conducted field observations on the distribution patterns of soil and vegetation cover, assessed river recharge regimes, and examined soil types, landscape structures, and changes in forest cover along altitudinal belts within the study area.

Students majoring in Land Management and Real Estate Cadastre were introduced to the principles of visual planning at the BSU Guba Center for Study, Practice, and Recreation. They were provided with a 1:10,000-scale map and description of the area. A designated land plot within the university center was allocated for morphogenetic studies, and samples collected from the site were transported to BSU laboratories for physical and chemical analysis.

The internship also included a preliminary visual environmental assessment of landscape transformations and the condition of natural components in the surrounding area. In addition, water samples were collected from the Garachay River for quality analysis.
