On May 15, 2026, the Baku Stock Exchange participated at a panel discussion on Sustainable Finance hosted by British Chamber of Commerce Azerbaijan Sustainability and Energy Committee 

The discussion featured representatives from the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Business Development Fund , Baku Stock Exchange, AZAL , focusing on how green finance can support Azerbaijan’s climate and economic development goals.

Speakers highlighted important progress, including Azerbaijan’s membership in the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), the development of a national Green Taxonomy, ESG risk integration, and financing opportunities for green initiatives. 

Discussing the potential of capital markets, Dr. Farid Abbaszade, Head of Trading at Baku Stock Exchange, provided an eye-opening perspective on the scale of the sector. He noted that the total size of the sustainable capital market has reached a staggering $9.1 trillion USD globally, highlighting the immense opportunity for Azerbaijan to attract green investment through instruments such as green bonds and sustainability-linked bonds (SLBs).

The event underlined the importance of cross-sector collaboration in building a strong and credible sustainable finance ecosystem in Azerbaijan.
