A round table titled “Overview of Internal Integration Processes in the Turkic World in the Context of the Decisions Adopted at the First Turkological Congress” was held at the Faculty of History of Baku State University (BSU).
Opening the event, Deputy Dean Kamala Najafova noted that the First Turkological Congress remains one of the most significant milestones in the cultural life of Turkic peoples in the 20th century, including Azerbaijan. She emphasized that modern cultural and scientific integration among Turkic nations, as well as cooperation based on shared values, is rooted in the scholarly foundations established during the congress.
Head of the Department of History of Turkic Peoples, Esmed Mukhtarova, described the congress as a historic event of great importance for cultural integration and the strengthening of national and moral unity among Turkic peoples. She highlighted the decision to adopt the Latin alphabet, noting that the congress played a key role in forming the theoretical and scientific basis of unity and in establishing Azerbaijan as a major scientific and cultural center of the Turkic world.
Professor Ismail Mammadov provided historical details, noting that the congress—dedicated to prominent Turkologists Vasily Radlov and Ismail Gasprinsky—brought together 131 delegates. During 17 sessions, participants discussed seven key issues and presented 38 reports covering language, history, ethnogenesis, ethnography, literature, and culture. The congress concluded with the adoption of 10 resolutions comprising 75 points.
The round table also featured speeches by scholars from the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and its affiliated research institutes. Participants emphasized that the decisions adopted at the congress continue to provide direction and inspiration for internal integration processes in the Turkic world today.
