Azerbaijan Railways became member of UN Global Compact

“Azərbaycan Dəmir Yolları” CJSC (Azerbaijan Railways) is a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as of August, 2023.

By becoming a member of UNGC, Azerbaijan Railways demonstrates the importance of environment, social and governance (ESG) aspects of its activities and intends to make contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the government’s economy. This also positions Azerbaijan Railways as the first representative of Azerbaijani transport sector in UN Global Compact, the initiative combining more than 500 members within the world.

Azerbaijan Railways has revised the current policies to align the organization’s governance with the global goals of sustainability and now continues its efforts on the modernization of the railway industry – in order to provide the comfortable and safe transportation for the customers. The above-mentioned is the next step in positioning the country as the main transportation hub in the region.

The UN Global Compact that was established in 2000 by initiative of United Nations, unites more than twenty thousand businesses and non-profits across 160 countries, is the world’s largest corporate sustainability network.

It encourages its members to align their strategies and activities with internationally accepted principles on human rights, labor rights and the environment and to contribute to the UN’s 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.
